FitnessPal

Personal Project

Overview

FitnessPal is an application dedicated to integrating available sports resources for people who live in big cities to have a better sports experience. Also, it has certain social attributes, it can break walls between people to help people to find a sports pal with similar interests.

Background

The project idea originates from the context of my hometown, Beijing, where the residents of big cities often have limited opportunities to exercise due to a lack of sports venues and a large population. Additionally, as most people in big cities live in buildings rather than houses, the sense of community among the residents is often distant. While anaerobic exercises can be done alone, most sports require multiple players, such as ping pong and tennis. Therefore, people would like to find someone to play with.

Personas

These personas are chosen to be particularly emblematic of the audience(s) I am targeting.  Maximizing the diversity of characteristics amongst the personas can make theses personas helpful when developing the app. They are illustrative of a wide range of user needs, motivations, skill levels and so forth.

Story Map

A storymap of the project will help creat tasks and a narrative flow. I used my primary personas to capture variations of the tasks in the flow.  Labeled groups of tasks as activities.

QOC(Questions, Options, and Criteria)

The Background

  • Facebook
  • Twitter
  • LinkedIn
  • Instagram

Features:

  • Allow people to find a partner while doing exercise

  • Allow people to find places that are available for sports

  • People can find coaches available online

  • Increase community engagement

Critical Feature:
In my opinion, one of the critical features of this app is to help people have a sense of companionship while doing sports. People will have a better connection with the community when they use my app. Also, the critical feature of This app is to help people make less effort when they are trying to do some sports. So people will be more willing to exercise.

Paper Prototype

Before starting to a hifi prototype, I want to use low-fidelity prototyping in the early stages of design. I made a paper prototype myself based on the QOC and my critical features. This will help me clear my mind when conducting the real design and it is fast and cheap to revise the user flow!

I use my pen as cursor on the screen to simulate how user interact with the interface. The lofi prototype will focus on interaction and tasks rather than the whole app interaction system

Class assignment final review

This is my very first project in the field of UX design, and the in-class project has been a great source of inspiration for me. It has given me valuable insights into the design process involved in creating user interfaces, and has helped me understand what it takes to excel in the field of interaction design. I have learned a lot from this project and benefited greatly from the experience!
